End of Windows XP support leaving organisations 'asleep at the wheel' and vulnerable

Organisations that haven't updated their operating systems by the time Microsoft ends support for Windows XP on 8 April will be left open to attacks from hackers and cyber criminals.

As of next month Microsoft will no longer be releasing updates for its 13-year-old operating system as the firm moves, in its own words, to "invest our resources toward supporting more recent technologies so that we can continue to deliver great new experiences"

Growth prospects amongst English manufacturing SMEs are at a 12-month high, according to the latest Manufacturing Advisory Service. Nearly two thirds (64%) of companies questioned are expecting to increase sales over the next six months.

There was equally positive news on recent performance, with 47% of the 700 firms who responded reporting a rise in sales turnover (+4% on the previous quarter), whilst 93% of manufacturers are looking to take staff on or keep workforce levels the same. Appetite for investment has also seen an upturn, with 39% planning to boost spending on new technologies and 48% intending to invest in new machinery and premises – both 4% up on the same period last year.

End of Sage Line 100 in September 2012

Sage has announced termination of support for Sage Line 100 on September 30th 2012. This means no further development of the product beyond that date, no new releases and no changes for any taxation or legal requirements. This effectively renders the product unusable the next time there is a legal or fiscal change.

Some Sage resellers are not informing their customers and other resellers claiming they can support and develop Line 100 past this date (they can’t.
